Nutrition Coordinator
Position Summary/Objective
Must be dedicated to the Mission and Vision of UETHDA and Purpose of the Head Start Program. Must possess strong leadership ability and able to have independent thought, judgements, and decision-making ability, with strong, well-developed critical-thinking skills. Must be willing to make decisions that are in the best interest of UETHDA and the Head Start Program.
Responsible for providing professional expertise in nutrition compliance. Supervises Nutrition staff and ensures that all Head Start Performance Standards and Federal and State regulations are met; works closely with other managers to coordinate nutrition policies; responsible for following Agency policies and procedures.
Capable of being an advocate for UETHDA and the Head Start Program and able to deliver oral presentations on behalf of UETHDA and the Head Start Program to Policy Council, Board of Directors, UETHDA Directors Team, and outside entities. Capable of incorporating technology into daily activities to be efficient at performing tasks, capturing, and measuring data, making decisions, and communicating effectively.

Administration
- Respond to identified nutrition needs within the organization and provide expertise and support in specialty areas.
- Use multidisciplinary team approach to develop and provide nutrition services to children, families, and staff.
- Provide information, referrals, and coordinating efforts to link staff and families to appropriate community resources.
- Responsible for ordering nutrition supplies and monitoring nutrition inventories.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with vendors, Agency funders/donors, and the health and nutrition community.
- Other duties as assigned.
Community Health Development
- Establish and maintain relationships and collaboration with nutrition professionals and other community agencies and partners.
- Member of HSAC (Health Services Advisory Committee).
- Participate in community projects, workgroups, initiatives, and data collection.
Program Support and Regulatory Compliance
- Participate in program's annual self-assessment.
- As directed by the Operations Manager assess, identify (includes individual child assessments) documents, plan and evaluate nutrition related services to ensure best nutrition outcomes for children and families.
- Manage contracts to ensure that nutrition services meet Head Start, CACFP, and state childcare performance standards.
- Work with the Operations Manager to submit the CACFP grant on an annual basis and submit monthly claims.
- Work with Operations staff to ensure kitchen facilities and equipment are maintained and scheduled for regular maintenance.
- Review and analyze data, including quarterly monitoring of individual families and classrooms to ensure nutritional needs are being met.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to collaborate, share and implement ideas and processes to support the larger vision of the Program and the Agency.
- Provide assistance and consultation to ensure that written policies and procedures are current.
- Collaborate with outside agencies to advocate for the needs of Head Start families.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Supervise nutrition staff.
- Facilitate the resolution of conflicts and actively promote a cooperative team environment.
- Promote a consistent exchange of information.
- Assist in determining and building appropriate training programs for staff.
- Provide mentoring and encouragement to support staff in meeting their full potential.
- Fairly and honestly, evaluate staff performance and when necessary, build corrective action plans designed to assist staff in overcoming obstacles that are hindering job performance with the goal of long-term success of staff in achieving Program’s purpose and meeting the Agency’s Mission and Vision.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

- Group Term Life Insurance for employee paid by UETHDA at 100% for coverage of 1.5 time the yearly wages
- Retirement Plan--Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS). Eligible employees are required to contribute 5% of yearly wages (pre-tax basis to the defined TCRS plan). UETHDA contributes an amortized amount as determined by TCRS. Employees are vested upon 5 years of eligible service.
- Additional 401(K) and 457 Savings Plan also available without employer match.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time exempt position. UETHDA strives for our staff to be able to maintain a work - life balance. Typically, this position will be 37.5 hours per week working Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. However, due to the nature of this position, some work in the evenings or on weekends may be necessary from time to time or an adjusted schedule may be required.
Travel
Travel is primarily locally during the business day, although some out of the area travel and overnight is expected.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in an area related to nutrition, dietetics, or health field. Bachelor’s degree or higher in nutrition, dietetics, or health or a combination of a bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field and relevant experience.
- One year’s experience in a related position, which includes professional level management and supervision of staff and budgets.
- Knowledge and experience in business and human resource practices.
- Experience in working with culturally diverse clients.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams.
- Experience using ChildPlus highly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with experience in verbally sharing data with management, Advisory Boards, and outside groups.
- Working knowledge of local community resources in job area.
- Valid Tennessee Driver's License/ Proof of auto insurance.
